Often people express an interest in learning about the language and culture of various countries after coming in contact with their citizens. Recently, I met group of interesting South Korean people from Seoul and I was quite carried away by their culture and language and so I decided to know about the South Korean language in great detail. I would like to share some of this valuable information about the South Korean language with you in great detail.

Korean is basically the official language of the people of north and South Korea. Korean language was basically influenced by the Chinese language in the form of the Sino-Korean words. The Korean language derived its name from the names used in North and South Korea. South Korea is officially known as the Republic of Korea. It is an East Asian state situated on the southern half of the Korean peninsula. The majority of the South Korean population lives near the capital, Seoul, which is the country's largest city. Initially, South Korea had to struggle against the Korean War, the Japanese and they had to undergo 5 major constitutional reforms. Now, it has been a multi-party democracy. Now, South Korea is leading the world in the ship building industry which is headed by companies like Hyundai Heavy Industries.

In terms of language Korea is greatly influenced by the Chinese. The South Korean language, too, borrows a lot of Chinese words and they also give these Chinese words a Korean reading and so in this way they invented new Korean characters as well which are used for personal or place names. Initially, the Korean alphabets were only associated with women, children and the uneducated. But in the 19th and the 2oth centuries a mixed writing system developed in Korea and so the Chinese characters began to lose their significance. In South Korea by the end of their high school, the school children are expected to learn around 1800 Chinese characters. The Korean language consists of around 24 letters in the Korean alphabets. Then there are 14 consonants and 10 vowels. These consonants are basically graphical representations of the speech organs which are used to produce them. The vowels derived its shape from the three elements namely, Earth, Man and Heaven. The sounds of these consonants keeps on changing depending upon their usage, that is, whether they are used in the top order, middle order or at the end. In south koura, the Chinese characters known as HANJA are used in some of the Korean texts. Korea is a language which is spoken by about 63 million people all over the south and the North Korea.
